Geometric Herb Garden, by Rosalind Wise (British, b. 1949)

“My mission is to capture time. Through painting I feel I can make the moment stand still, to make its beauty last,” says Rosalind Wise. She achieves this goal by creating fresh, lively, large-format paintings of gardens, meadows, wetlands, and other natural vistas. “The pleasure is in the view, taking it in visually, the whole picture of what is in front of me. And yet there is equal pleasure in looking at the plants, grasses, and flowers close up.”

Geometric Herb Garden was inspired by the knot garden at the Garden Museum, in London. The knot is a seventeenth-century-style garden designed by the Dowager Marchioness of Salisbury and planted in honor of John Tradescant the Elder and the Younger, gardeners to King Charles I. The garden as Wise has rendered it is bursting with herbs, creating a tapestry of color, texture, and pattern that highlights the geometry of the knot.

Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, our 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzleworkers.

Rosalind Wise

From exquisite portraits of single blooms to her Flower Cycle masterpiece, Rosalind Wise (British, b. 1949) takes inspiration from nature, painting scenes of gardens and meadows, ponds and paths on canvases typically four to five feet across. Her early work focused on small, singular bits of the natural world. These days, Wise says, her response “is to the colour, tone and movement found there. It is to the tip or balance between order and chaos, freedom or restraint, things separate yet mingling together, all part of the expressive whole.” A native of South Wales, Wise now lives in Gloucestershire, painting a reality that exists outside modern life’s constant consumerism. Her goal is to reconnect us with the beauty and magic of existence.
